Individual Therapy
Our first meeting will be an intake of about 60-75 minutes in length. I will gather broad range of information and history. Including that of medical, family, social, academic and occupational related. Completing the online forms prior to this visit will help in this process. We will identify your reasons for coming to counseling and what you hope to achieve through this journey. The beginning of treatment will continue with rapport building, strengths identification and putting in place healthy coping skills. These are some of the vital foundations for long term success. Individual follow up sessions are approximately 50 minutes in length unless other arrangements have been made with your counselor and are scheduled based on need. At Compassionate Counseling & Consulting, therapy is typically attended once a week, but depending on the individual and their unique situation it can be more or less frequency. Weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or as needed are all acceptable.
Group Therapy
I believe group therapy can be a very powerful experience. It's a way to bring people together to help them know they are not alone in their thoughts and ways. While it’s true that each of us is unique and may have unique circumstances, none of us is alone in our struggles.
Group is led by the clinician, however members are encouraged to turn to each other for support, feedback and connection. I hear often "I just don't think I can share in front of others". No one is ever required to share, listening and being a part of healing is powerful in itself. Keep in mind sometimes that reason we think we "can't share" may be because we may haven't truly been able to find our voice or felt like we truly had that safe place to do so.
My groups are created to be safe outlets with no judgment and with plenty of opportunities to practice expression in healthy ways. They practice skills in the group, and as they do, their confidence for practicing them outside the group grows.
